(28 Elul 5781)

About

What would happen if every Jew around the world blew the shofar at the same time? In the month of Elul? Right before Erev Rosh Hashana? I don't have a clue, but I get goosebumps just thinking about the scene. What could happen? The possibilities are endless, but there's really only one way to find out...

Rosh Hashana and the shofar are inextricably tied together. The call of the shofar is a universal link, an instinctive call that everyone can identify with. It's the wordless sound with deeper meaning than any words can possibly convey. And one reason we do it is the same reason a baby cries out. Someone is listening.

Rosh Hashana is profound. It marks the beginning of the new year, but also the end of a previous one. It's an opportunity to reflect. Especially after a year of national tragedies and continued pandemic.

But the year isn't over yet. There's an opportunity to do something that has never been done before, something unique to cap what has been one of the most unique years in modern history. An opportunity to throw back the Jewish national experience to be like one person with one heart, putting aside all differences for a few minutes of unity.

Sunday, September 5th is the 28th day of Elul, a month when we practice blowing the shofar nearly every day. It's the last day we blow shofar before the real deal on Rosh Hashana itself, the last flurry of activity before the calm before the storm.

Please join us. Let's blow the shofar together. Every Jew, no matter where you are in your world.
